Windfall

Energy

Windfall Energy are the creators of the Windfall Battery: a plug-in battery that lowers bills for renters and people in flats.

The company was founded in 2025 with the aim of bringing cheaper, cleaner energy to everyone - not just people living in big houses who could afford it.

Since then, we’ve been speaking to people around the UK about their energy usage. Particularly people who rent or live in flats who feel powerless to do anything about their increasing bills.

Our technology is based on the premise that there’s plenty of cheap green energy on the grid these days, but not necessarily at the times you need it. So if you can decouple when energy is purchased from when it is used, you can save money.

We first tested some of our theories by developing a smart plug that we got into the hands of 100 users. Building on that, we then tested a beta battery product which we installed in home in and around London.

We recently sold out of the first pre-orders of the Windfall Battery.

Team

Ashley and Rob met at a Green IoT Meetup, and were both looking for ways to use their skills and experience to have a positive impact on the climate crisis. They shared a frustration that it’s difficult to make a difference to your energy consumption when you live in a flat.

After spending time researching solutions, and visiting Germany to understand the emerging Balkonkraftwerk movement, it became clear that there was a wide gap in the market for products designed specifically with this audience in mind.
